Services
What's on offer
Several engagement types, each scoped to the problem rather than sold as a package.
| Service | What it covers | How it's engaged |
|---|---|---|
| Fractional CTO | Technical strategy, architecture decisions, establishing staffing requirements and standard operating procedures, hiring interviews, technical infrastructure security audits, investor and board reporting. | Hourly, billed with a minimum of 5 hours per week. |
| Software Architecture | Hands-on design, build and code review: from vague concept through production hardening. We can take your idea and make it a reality from start to finish. | Project-based or hourly. |
| Technical Due Diligence | Independent assessment of a codebase, architecture, and engineering team ahead of funding or acquisition. | Fixed-scope, project-based. |
| Security & Privacy Audits | Independent assessment of the design, implementation, deployment, and policies/procedures, to identify any risks to the software vendor or its users. | Fixed-scope, project-based. |
| Accessibility & Equality Audits | Independent assessment of the design, language, and policies/procedures, to identify any impediments to safely and comfortably accessing a system by a diverse audience. | Fixed-scope, project-based. |
Approach
How the process works
Four steps, in order. No middlemen or miscommunications.
-
Scope call
Thirty minutes, no cost, with the founder.
We define the problem and whether it's a fit. -
Assessment
I directly review the codebase, team, and roadmap, at an hourly rate.
-
Plan
I provide a plan of action and a fixed price (for per-project work) or an estimate (for hourly work).
-
Engagement
Once agreed, I get to work fulfilling our roadmap, reporting back progress as milestones are hit.
-
Handoff
Documentation and knowledge transfer are built in from day one, not bolted on at the end.
-
Maintenance Plan
I offer a free lifetime guarantee on my work, but peace of mind is having someone available on-call to offer training or make minor changes.
Guarantee
Work backed for as long as you're using it
Every engagement includes a lifetime guarantee on delivered work, not a limited warranty window.
If a defect is found in code or architecture delivered under an Ingenthron Engineering contract, it gets fixed at no additional cost, for as long as your company is using it.
- Covered
- Bugs and defects found after the contract has concluded, as well as any feature that fails to meet the agreed-upon job spec.
- Not covered
- New feature work, issues caused by a change in environment, changes made by other engineers after handoff, or requirements that changed after delivery.
- Response
- Acknowledged within one business day, fixed in a reasonable time, based on issue urgency and availability.
About
One operator, on purpose
Ingenthron Engineering is a single-operator firm. That's a design decision, not a limitation.
There's no salesmen, no account manager, and no hand-off between the person who sold the engagement and the person who does the work. The engineer you talk to on the scope call is the one reviewing the architecture, writing the code, and sitting in the board meeting. Startups get senior-level judgement without the administrative overhead of a firm built to farm out billable hours across a roster of junior developers.
Louis Ingenthron
Founder & Principal Engineer
Louis has been engineering software for over two decades. His passion began at an early age with an interest in video games, leading him to eventually work as a developer for industry giant Electronic Arts. He followed this by spending the next decade building his career in the business world, eventually becoming an executive before he hit age 30. Now, having launched his own business, Louis has helped clients across the world build new ideas and revamp & secure old systems.
Louis prides himself on his professionalism and integrity. He provides discounted and even pro bono work for charitable causes, and reserves the right to reject any job that violates his ethical or professional standards. He believes that technology should work to benefit all parties, and should provide privacy and security for all users as a first-class feature, respect communications consent (or lack thereof), and be accessible to anyone who uses assistive technologies.

What clients say
"I have managed hundreds of software developers over the years, and it is rare to find someone highly technically skilled and with such a fabulous can-do attitude. He is self-sufficient, highly resourceful, and self-organized. There is nothing that Louis cannot do!"
